Today I’m going to be talking to you about one thing that I shifted in my business that really helped.
I’ll preface the story a little bit for you.
When I got started, five years ago, I was introduced to network marketing. I came from a direct sales company, realized network marketing is completely different than direct sales.
I did not want to do any more home parties.
I did not want to make a list of 100 people.
I basically just fell in love with the product. I felt passionate about it and I wanted to share it with people, but I wanted to move away from a warm audience.
I got involved in network marketing, grew a six figure business with a year and then a multiple six figure business.
A little bit longer than a year ago, I started saying to myself, “I feel like I want to start branding more of me.”
I didn’t want to brand my network marketing company because ultimately you don’t own your network marketing company. I think it was Ray Higdon who said, “The only thing that you truly own is your email list and your website.”
That really stuck with me and here’s why.
Back in 2015, I started getting scared. It was when two major network marketing companies shut their doors.
Think about that. Think about if you’re making $1,000 a month, $5,000 a month, a six figure, multiple six figure income, whatever it is for you, think about that.
You don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors in your network marketing company. Yes, you love it and you’re passionate about it, but you don’t know and so he said, “The only thing you own is your email list.” I said, “Wow.”
It really got me thinking.
I said, “Okay, well, how do you build an email list?” I’m not going to get into all that right now because I could seriously do a separate training about sales funnels, but literally I got myself an email marketing account.
I wanted to be able to collect people’s emails, so I can market to them or I could connect and build relationships with them. I now have built a list of more than 15,000 subscribers.
I always say, “Do you want to hit one to one or do you want to hit one to many?”
You say, “Okay, well, how were you able to build 15,000 subscribers?” You might say, “Well, I’m just building a network marketing business.”
Well, that’s cool, but how are you communicating with your customers?
Do you email each one individually?
Do you have to call them when you have a promo or a contest or something going on?
If your network marketing company shut down tomorrow, think about being able to now have all of those people in case you went to another company. Right? If you don’t have an email marketing system set up, how are you supposed to take those customers with you?
It would probably take a long time for you to contact each one of them one by one.
How do you set it up? Very simply.
You can give somebody something for free.
Maybe you’re in network marketing and you’re in health and wellness or you do something with weight loss or something with skin care, you could give them a really simplified PDF checklist.
People love getting something for free. It doesn’t have to be this big robust freebie, but something where they’re able to go and put in their email and in return they’re getting this free PDF, this free audio, this free guide, this free video, whatever it is that you decide to give away.
That’s what I did.
You don’t need an elaborate website. You could literally go to Wix.com and it literally builds a website within an hour. Just to be able to house your freebie.
If you decide to blog, that’s totally up to you. You don’t have to do all of that.
It’s just to be able to connect your email list to your personal website.
You should be branding yourself and not your company. Those of you that know me know I’m a big advocate of that, again, because what if your network marketing company shut its doors tomorrow?
There is a flow to that. There is a flow to getting traffic. There is a flow to Facebook advertising, which has been, by far, the fastest way that I have been able to build an email list.
It is by running and boosting, very minimally, a day some advertising.
Think about if you could put a dollar into your advertising every single day and you every single time you did that got three, four, five dollars back, would it not be worth it?
Here’s a tip on branding.
I feel in the beginning, everyone wants to highlight what is my brand, what is my brand, what is my brand.
You need to figure out who you want to attract.
Yeah, you want to understand yourself, but who is it that you’re looking to attract to you and who can you help? Who can you serve?
Just by getting starting and doing Facebook Lives, I feel that my audience developed my brand for me. I don’t like when people get hung up on this whole “I have to figure out my brand, I have to figure out my brand.”
Then they’re stuck at that moment. I feel like there’s so much highlight lately on branding, branding, branding that often it stops people from getting started, from moving forward, because there’s such this highlight on branding.
I love, love, love, love sales funnels. I love how it upgrades. I love everything about it, the process. I love the advertising.
Facebook is not going anywhere and Facebook advertising is so hot right now – understand how to do it. Whether you’re networking marketing, an online marketer, an internet marketer, an affiliate marketer, it does not matter. You should be advertising on Facebook and you don’t have to spend a ton of money on it to be successful.

Thank you so much for sharing such amazing tips Julie. It took me a long time to understand how to use the internet to grow my network marketing business. With this post, you have made it so clear on what I should be focusing on building, ME. My company can shut down tomorrow even though I do not want to think about it, but if I am building me, and my lis, I can jump into another company and start kicking butt. You rock!
