In this episode, I’m sharing with you why it’s so important to build your own website.
You could do it without spending a lot of money.
I know a lot of people freak out, but I’m going to give you a way that you can build your website in a day.
I want you to think about a couple of things. This is really why I built a website. Everything was great within my team and within my upline, but I’ll tell you, once you start thinking outside the box, you start veering off the path that they want you to stay in, and it’s likely that things could happen.
If I didn’t build an e-mail list where I was able to communicate with people, I could have lost all that. I could have lost all of my great contacts. I’ve been building these relationships on the side to grow my training company.
What I’m trying to get across to you is that anything could happen. You could have a falling out with your upline, you could have a falling out with your company, you could decide that you want to move companies. You could have your company shut down without any notice. That has happened several times in network marketing.
Here’s my question for you: Do you have a way to stay in contact and communication with your people? Because if you’re truly building a home-based business, you need to think of another avenue where you can communicate with somebody, and something that you truly, truly own for yourself.
What that is is your website. What that is is your e-mail list.
We call it our hub. It’s our home.
My network marketing company does not own my website. I own my website. Nobody owns my e-mail list. I own the 26,000 subscribers on my e-mail list. Think about that, you guys, because people often get involved in network marketing and the company usually has its own website, which is fine. You could use their tools, send people to it.
But what are we always talking about? What am I always teaching you guys?
It’s to brand you. Do not brand your company. This is not about branding your company or your product, or your service. This is about you fully branding you.
I want you to think about your branding how you want to come across. You are not your product.
For me, I started branding me, and not branding health and nutrition. I designed my Createsuccesswithjulie.com website.
Went to GoDaddy, the url for julieburke.com, was $20,000… go figure. I guess it’s a hot name. I don’t know.
I decided to do Createsuccesswithjulie.com.
I have a WordPress site, so yes, it’s a little bit more intricate and I had someone help me. But, before that happened, I built a website by myself using Wix.
I had my assistant help me with that, and it was up within an hour. If you are new and you are interested in building your own website, you don’t need a lot. You need a Home page and an About page, and you need something for free. Like a freebie offer.
I’m not going to get in to all about freebies today, but something for free where you could capture their e-mails. They could go to your website, plug it in, and usually that resource will be something based around what you do. If you are in health and wellness, your freebie could be your top 10 recipes. Seriously, your very first freebie offer is like a PDF that someone could literally printout in one or two pages.
So many times, people think like, “Oh, it’s a freebie. Do I need to write like an eBook?” No. It literally is like the best converting freebies, if you’re new, is a PDF.
Something simple. If you’re in skincare, it could be tips on healthy eating or maybe, if you’re in natural skincare, it could be like the top 10 things that damage your skin that are sneaky. You don’t even know about these top 10 things. It could even be like a video series, like a really short video series. It could be an audio series. There’s so much you could do, it’s ridiculous.
Back to why it’s so important, because again, you don’t own your company. You only own you and I’m going to be more adamant about this now more than ever because of what just currently happened to me. It actually was a really good thing. It opened my eyes in a big way. I’m grateful I have been building this business and this brand knowing in mind that anything could happen. Because it was a couple years ago that two really huge network marketing companies shut their doors. That’s where I started thinking about everything. “What if?” Doesn’t mean we don’t love our company or we’re not passionate about it, it’s just what if something happened.
Now, I’m able to communicate with all of you by the tap of a button. How cool is that? That’s what e-mail marketing is all about. Again, if you design a website, it doesn’t have to be intricate.
Again, this is where I feel a lot of people get held up. It’s called Wix.com, really simple. You just need a homepage or you can have like a freebie offer, and About Me so people could read a little bit about you. Maybe a tab for Products if want to promote your products. If you decide to blog, that’s a great thing too. I have my blogs and they go out every single week, so I’m able to keep communicating.
What I do for my blog is I take my videos, and I get them transcribed through rev.com, and then we clean them up, and I’m able to send out the video with the blog, like this.
I just want you to think about if something did happen, do you have something set in place that would help you move forward? Because the last thing that I want to see is for something like that to happen, where one day, it’s done. You don’t have a CRM system, you don’t have an e-mail marketing system.
Just a little food for thought today, and this truly was the one thing that changed my life…starting this website, being able to grow my e-mail list, and build relationships.
Being authentic and building a relationship with all of you.
Yeah, this training is for those that want to know more about building their website and the importance of building their website.
We’re all perfectionist, right? I don’t want to speak for you, but I am. I’m going to tell you it will not be perfect, and that’s okay. Right now, I’m actually having my website reworked.
Your website doesn’t need to have six or seven different pages like mine. You literally can have a website just for the fact to have something up where people could learn more about you, and you’re offering them something for free, and then they’re going to put their e-mail in and get your freebie offer, and then “Bang,” you have their e-mails.
Then, you have to figure out a way to communicate. Whether you’re going to do a video, send it out every week, or a blog, or a newsletter. I don’t inundate people. I know some people that do e-mail marketing every single day of the week. I don’t.
I literally just have it scheduled to go out on Mondays and Tuesdays. Twice a week, they get a blog from me. But you could do once a month or twice a month. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy.
Again, it’s perfectionism that often holds people up. I don’t want to see that for you.
If you have any questions about a website, just ask me. For my e-mail marketing, I use Aweber. I like it the best and it’s very cost efficient. The more subscribers you get, the more you pay, but I do feel that that was the easiest one to use and most utilized. Also, Aweber has really good control to getting to people’s inboxes and not in their spam folders. Just a little FYI.
If you found value in this today, I need you to do me a favor. I would love for you to share this, if possible, and also comment below. Let me know if it was helpful.
Any other questions, let me know. If you found value, I’d love to hear from you. As always, you guys, be blessed and I look forward to seeing you on the next training. Bye for now.
Before you head off to build your website, let me ask you a question.
Do you feel like you are spending lots of time and money to grow your business and you aren’t getting anywhere? It’s bootcamp time!
As always..
Cheers to your success!
Did this help you? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts below in the comments.

Hi Julie
I just recently signed up for one of your programs and listened to how your grew your NWM business on Social Media. You didn’t even have a website.
So I have to say I was thrown off by your Blog this morning stating the importance of having a website. I am confused. Can you explain?
Hi Julie, great info. I’ve got a personal website for my health coaching, but I was curious if you had ever used the blog and website platform through EMP and if so, do you recommend it and is it user friendly. Just curious before I start building mine.
Thanks again for all you share!

Hi Julie,
Yes, I totally agree with you and believe the “perfectionism” factor is what’s been holding me back from creating our website. Freebies are great for attracting & capturing contacts, never thought they could be as simple as a PDF. We’re passionate about our FAITH, FAMILY, Holistic Health, CPR Training, NWM practices & LIFE! My question is what’s the best approach to incorporate all this seamlessly?
I appreciate your input, thank you. I’ll be sharing this article with my daughter from Dallas that just started a blog as well. God bless.
