3 Questions to Ask to Get a Prospect to Say Yes
Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity
I’m sure that you can name five situations in your life where miscommunication may have occurred. Whether between your family, business, friends, schooling, you name it – there was probably a day where things just weren’t connecting right. And hey, that’s normal. But you definitely want to make sure you’re getting better at explaining yourself.
I’m not here telling you to go read a dictionary or that you need to speak better, I’m saying remember WHO you are speaking TO. You need to know the people you are talking to so that you can communicate effectively.
Here’s an example: everyone learns differently. Some people are visual learners, while others are more hands-on learners. A great teacher would figure out a way to teach the same topic, but in multiple ways so that all the students learn effectively.
That’s what you want to do with your prospects. You need to get to know them, find common ground, and that’s how you begin your journey to find out whether or not this person is someone you want to work with. And after you’ve established your own thoughts on them, you can then really start to establish how you’re going to discuss the business at hand.
Remember that you are not meant for everyone. And we LOVE that!
You shouldn’t work with just anyone. In order for you to actually enjoy your business, you’ve got to know who you want to work with. Their likes, dislikes, hobbies, beliefs, morals… You need to know it all. It will help immensely when it comes to communicating with them because you’ll learn what things get them excited and what things turn them off.
Be a human first, marketer second. ALWAYS.
The art and science of asking questions is the source of all knowledge
You can talk and talk and talk all you want, but if you don’t stop and listen, you’ll never learn anything. In order to get to know your prospect, ask questions about their life. And these three questions are SO important for you to get that prospect to say YES:
1. Are you happy?
Such a simple question, but so damn powerful, you guys. This gets them thinking about their life. In reality, too many people are unhappy. Whether it’s with their jobs, relationships, body, family, health…there are many aspects of their life where they might not be happy. At all.
When you ask this question, be quiet afterward. Let them share with you their answers and PAY ATTENTION. You will be able to determine if #1 – you want to work with them and #2 – if you have the ability to help them. Again, you are not meant for everyone and that is perfectly alright.
2. Do you have a plan to change that?
So, your prospect has determined that they aren’t happy. Naturally, you want to know what their plan is to change that, but here’s the thing…most don’t have a plan and just sit in misery, wallowing in their misfortune.
3. Would you like to see one?
DING DING DING! This is where you get to see if they are interested in what you have to offer. You have a solution that can help them become happy again. You didn’t have to jump right into your offer at all. You took the time to get to know them, their issues, and now you can NATURALLY discuss what you can do to help them. There was no pushiness, no arm twisting, nothing and that’s what is going to get your prospect to say YES. They can feel that you actually want to help them and not just to get the sale.
In The End…
It’s all about simplicity. Ask simple yes or no questions to get them to open up more. There’s a chance that in the end, they’re spilling all their problems and you can pinpoint exactly how YOU can help. People want to work with people. They join things because of people. The product is almost NEVER the sole reason for joining someone’s networking business.
Think about questions that would get you sharing more. Ask those same questions to them. Think about the reasons why you joined in the first place. Prospects are regular people just like you and me, so ask things you would be okay with answering yourself to a stranger. Don’t make it weird. People will get to know you and eventually trust you. And in this business, trust is HUGE.
So again, be a human first and a marketer second, ALWAYS.
