Stop Doing This One Thing That Ruins Your Productivity
You Can Do Anything…
So, like I said, I have been in your shoes. I used to feel this urge and need to just SLAM things out. I didn’t care if it was going to take me 8 hours straight, all I was certain of was that I was going to get shit done. Here’s the thing though, we get SO involved in our work, that we don’t ever establish stopping points, limits, or boundaries. Instead what ends up happening is that we BURN OUT. All of sudden, we lack motivation, we start to ping-ponging through ideas and tasks. We become only partially engaged in our tasks and our productivity crashes.
… But Not Everything
The good news is that there are a few simple steps that can make a world of a difference to how productive your day is going to be.
Here’s what I do to ensure that my time is spent well:
- Write a list the night before. This is so damn important, you guys. I write down three things I have to get done and circle the most important one. So when I wake up, I already have a set plan for the day and am ready to go.
- Focus on the most important task of the day in the morning. So we made our list, right? Now, it’s time to make sure we get that ONE important thing DONE right at the start. I turn my phone off so that there are ZERO distractions. And if you get your 2nd and 3rd task done as well, great! Just don’t forget to…
- Set regularly scheduled breaks OUTSIDE of your office. If you don’t do something to end the burnouts, you’re going to continue living them. The solution is so simple- take a damn BREAK. Go for a walk, go to the gym, sit on your porch, lay in the grass, go for a run, do SOMETHING that gets you out of the office. Let the clarity in and the ideas flow while you are just simply being. Hell, take a mini vacay or get a pedicure. Treat yourself because you EARNED it.
In The End…
Having a plan for your work day is gold. Your productivity increases so your business thrives. I can’t even begin to describe the amazing feeling I get when I get to cross things off my list. I feel so accomplished, and it just amps me up! Instead of just jumping right into another work-related task, I treat myself to a little break. Sometimes a work-free vacation can give you the recharge you needed to come back and kick ass.
